San Francisco National Cemetery Caretaker Lodge Rehabilitation
Client
U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) and the Department of Veterans AffairsProject Description
Wu & Associates is performing the historic rehabilitation of the Caretaker Lodge located within the San Francisco National Cemetery in the Presidio. Delivered in coordination with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) and the Department of Veterans Affairs, the project focuses on restoring and modernizing a historically significant structure while preserving its architectural character.
Currently under construction, with work commencing in Spring 2026, the scope includes upgrades to roofing systems, exterior and interior finishes, window restoration, and mechanical and electrical systems, along with associated improvements. The project also involves the abatement of lead-based paint from existing stucco surfaces, including removal of a uniquely thick, rubberized coating that presents additional technical challenges.
Executed within the historic Presidio and an active, culturally sensitive cemetery setting, the work requires careful coordination, attention to detail, and adherence to federal preservation and safety standards. Through thoughtful craftsmanship and collaboration with federal stakeholders, Wu & Associates is revitalizing the Caretaker Lodge to support continued use while maintaining the integrity and legacy of this landmark environment.
